Sanchezia speciosa, a notable ornamental species, is renowned for its vibrant foliage and unique growth characteristics. This research was carried out at Floriculture Nursery, Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Aswan University, Egypt from February 2021 to February 2023. The main objective was to assess the effects of IBA and NAA, on both root development and shoot growth of the hard-to-root Sanchezia speciosa. The experimental setup employed a split-plot design. The main plot was categorized based on type of PGR. Each main plot was further divided into five sub-plots, each receiving a specific concentration (0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, or 0.2%) of IBA or NAA. The increasing of IBA and NAA concentration over 0.05%, led to significant improvement in the percentage of rooted cuttings, days for leaf sprouting, plant length, stem diameter, number of leaves root length, fresh and dry weights of shoots and roots, and tissue contents of phosphorus and potassium. The best treatment for rooting was IBA or NAA at 0.2% (73.8%). This treatment led to leaf sprouting with five days earlier (17-18 days) than control. However, there was not significant difference in the number of shoots, contents of photosynthetic pigments, and nitrogen after the treatment with 0.2% of auxins. IBA outperformed NAA in plant length and fresh and dry weights of leaves and roots, while NAA demonstrated to be better for stem diameter, root length, and potassium content. Soaking stem cuttings in 0.2% IBA for 30 min is the best treatment for enhancing root formation and overall growth of Sanchezia speciosa.

Key words: auxin, growth regulators, leaf sprouting, ornamental shrubs, rooting, vegetative propagation
