Abstract
Efficient plant regeneration through adventitious shoot formation was achieved from callus cultures derived from leaf explants of Elaeagnus angustifolia. Calluses were obtained on MS medum containing 3% sucrose and different concentrations of TDZ (0.5, 1, 2, 4, and 6 mg l-1). Maximum percentage response for callus formation was 60% on MS medium supplemented with 2 mg l-1 of TDZ. Adventitious shoot formation was achieved after transfer of calluses to MS medium with 3% sucrose containing different concentrations of BA (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 mg l-1) or kinetin (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 mg l-1). Maximum adventitious shoot formation (44 shoots on 400 mg callus) was observed on MS medium with 2 mg l-1 BA.
