Abstract
Effect of donor plant phenological phase on root formation of stem cuttings was studied. Juniperus communis 'Hibernica', Juniperus communis 'Suecica', Juniperus squamata 'Meyeri', Juniperus scopulorum 'Skyrocket', Juniperus sabina 'Mas' and Juniperus scopulorum ' Blue Arrow ' were chosen as objects of the research. The cuttings were collected in January (phase of deep dormancy), end of February (phase of forced dormancy), beginning of May (beginning of shoot growth), end of June (end of shoot growth) and were planted the same day. Rooting was carried out under conditions of artificial fog in a mixture of coarse-grained sand and high-moor peat (1:l v/v). For protection from sun during the whole period of rooting sacking cover was used. In winter, air temperature of 16-19°C and temperature of substratum of 14-16°C was maintained in the greenhouse. At the end of April the heating supply was cut off. The intensity of root formation of studied taxa has individual peculiarities and depends on phenological phase of donor plants, from which cuttings are taken. For the conditions of Belarus, the most optimal time for collecting the cuttings of Juniperus communis 'Hibemica', Juniperus communis 'Suecica' and Juniperus saopulorum 'Skyrocket' coincides with end of shoot growth. Cuttings of Juniperus sabina 'Mas' and Juniperus scopulorum' Blue Arrow' have the strongest ability for root formation in a phase of deep dormancy and in a phase of forced dormancy. The time of cuttings collection for rooting of Juniperus squamata 'Meyeri' is not of fundamental importance.

Key words: Juniperus L., phenological phase, root formation, stem cuttings, vegetative propagation, donor plants.
